This week I have been teaching a class in color. There were students from the US and Canada and as far away as Korea. All were and are serious students, learning how to become image consultants. Midway through the first day, I said to one , I do not consider myself a “fashionista”, I consider myself a “stylista”. I study fashion, but I am a student of style!

There is not a woman that I have met who doesn’t want to look good, be current or fashionable. Anyone CAN buy fashionable clothes but it’s the woman the knows, truly knows her style that people notice. She is not a “fashionista”, she’s a “stylista”!

How does she do it? How does she learn how to buy the right clothes for herself no matter what her size, shape or lifestyles? She is a student of herself.

Youth is very forgiving. We all expect young people to make silly mistakes. We forgive them because we know they are on a path, learning what to do.I used to tell my children once is a mistake, twice is probably o.k., but a third time…well that’s stupidity. That may sound harsh, but reflect upon the “stupid mistakes” you have made. There were probably opportunities to learn along the way that you never paid attention to. The point is to learn from your mistakes.

When you are in your 20′s you should experiment with fashion. I encourage you to try on different styles to see how you feel and what the world says when you are doing so. But DO pay attention..Remember once is a mistake!

In your 30′s, you should have learned at the very least what shapes looks good on you in the past decade. Narrow down the choices, you are not in college anymore. Your closet still will have some mistakes but there shouldn’t be as many. Mistakes now may come in the form of color or style. Pay attention to whether you prefer floral prints or stripes, and certain fabrics or detail such as ruffles or embellishments.

By the time that you have hit your 40′s you should have a solid idea of what styles looks and feels good on you. Eliminate EVERYTHING in your closet that is a mistake and doesn’t look or feel good on you. As your body and lifestyle changes, choices that you have made in past decades will continue to support you and make you look great.

Cruise into your 50′s and beyond embracing the simplicity of dressing for yourself and the well known adage “less is more”. Accessories are your BFF (best friend forever). You are no longer searching for fashion because you have STYLE. You know how to take a trend, a fashion statement and put it into your wardrobe and make it your own. Congratulations! you have now become a “stylisa”!

Remember, you DON’T have to do it alone either! There is great benefit to being a life long learner! Wisdom is power and you now have the power to:

“Look Good, Feel Great and Have FUN Doing It!”

It’s been a very long winter here in the south and it seems as if we’ve just launched right into summer. This has sent everyone who is allergy prone into a tail spin. Walking the other day and seeing all the pine pollen I had to acknowledge this was the cause of everyone’s misery.

I took a picture of this pine frond to encourage all you allergy sufferers out there that you are almost done! See, there are only a few pods left on the frond…

What is causing your misery in the closet? What is it that you are suffering from?

It is too many t-shirts?

Pants that don’t fit?

Can’t find any dresses that you like for spring and summer.

Do you even know what looks good on you?

Are you in a style funk?

Any one of these could be the simple cause of your misery and unlike pollen this cannot go away until you learn the source and understand how to fix it.

You have a chance, one chance this summer to “fix it” or at the very least get a great start to understanding your style misery.

Come to StyleCAMP, June 19th.

We are busy working on new educational opportunities for you so if you have always wanted to come, don’t wait any longer. The next learning opportunity won’t be until the fall!

Discover the cause of your misery and you’ll learn how to :

Here are our latest “graduates” from Style Camp in August. These ladies come from all walks of life and all want to achieve the same result…..Individual Style! It is always a great pleasure to share the Style Camp experience.

It is my hope that Style Camp is just the beginning of great things to come in so many ways. Style Camp for many is the start of understanding what true style is. We start with a simple questionnaire and from there the discovery begins.

It’s fun, it’s no doubt educational, but most of all it is a start of a journey that can lead to so many great things. I have had people share their experiences after camp is over. That’s the real blessing in it all. Here are some of my recent emails:

“Thanks for getting me on the road to finding my style!” S.C.
“today was worth every minute. Rarely is your experience greater than your expectations. ” D.H
” I went shopping in desperate hopes of finding anything decent to wear” I was able to use my knowledge that you taught me and IT WORKED!” I got some great pieces and I just know you would be proud of the selections! A.T.
“This has been a great experience to learn more about general style concepts then apply info to my current personal style!” R.C
“Great Job Karen! Worth the money, but more importantly worth the time. ” V.B.
“I loved Style Camp” MJC

So, keep it up ladies and always remember:

“Look good, feel great and have fun doing it!”

Boot camps are popular ways to get intensive training in everything from exercise to training your child to sleep. Now you can even go to “Style” or “Wardrobe” Boot Camp. Here at Image Assets, we have developed a full day training to help you develop your unique style.

To be effective and work for you, there are several things that must happen in a “style” or “wardobe” boot camp.

Indepth questions about your personal style

Individual reflection of your style preferences

Analysis of these 2 steps to see what is in alignment

Body line and proportion discovery

Working out a formula

There really is a “method” to figuring it out. You can put a formula together to have a wardrobe that works for you in all areas of your life. Follow the formula and check in seasonally (two times a year) to make sure you are presenting your true self. Congratulate yourself on how well you are doing. As Tim Gunn says, “style requires work”.

If you are not one to want to work at the process, there are stylists, image consultants, and personal shoppers whose job it is to make the process easier for you.

Remember, what I always say “look good, feel great and have fun doing it!”
